I like the concept of ui-patterns.com, despite the (probably) altruistic nature of Yahoo's design pattern library, I still get this feeling that they could use it to influence UI design to suit themselves (god knows why, maybe I'm just paranoid). It's nice however to see an independant site documenting this stuff.

A couple of ideas for improving the site:

For each design pattern you could add a best-practice section in which tips concerning coding, mark-up, UX and links to good implementations could go.

It would be nice to include some sort of discussion for each pattern - possibly as a comment stream on each page.

Dave: Thank you for the nice words - and even more thank you for your comments.

Actually, the site is already a wiki - but with access rights only for me. The plan is to release the wiki features for everybody once I feel the library is well-rounded without too many loose-ends.

Comments is definitely needed to discuss patterns - but what do you mean by "comment stream"? An RSS feed for comments?

As the for best-practice sections - I think you're on to something there as well. When I first created the site, I made two main sections: patterns and techniques. The idea was then that the techniques should be the best-practices of how to implement each pattern. What I quickly found out was however that such best-practice tutorials take a looong time to write. BUT - they will get done eventually.

Thank you for the input!

UI-Patterns is a great resource! I've recommended it to my designers and copywriters as essential reading to understand how to create better user experiences. Great job, Andrew. =)

But I think youd should add one major improvement to your site : an RSS feed !

This would be very userfull because I think people don't want to come back each day to see if you added someting...
